A Word on Rain Suits

A word on rain suits.

Generally, Murphy’s Law dictates that if you have a rain
suit with you it will not rain. It also states that if you pull over and put a
rain suit on at the first sign of rain the rain will stop shortly after you are
ensconced in your rain suit. I have learned to pull over early, wiggle into my
rain suit and look for the skies to clear as I remount my bike. Just like we
wear crash protection to prepare for the remote possibility of a crash. In a way
the thinking is if you wear crash protection you will never need it.

So, having a quality rain suit with you when you travel a
field is a key component of preparedness. Generally, I don’t like to leave in
the rain. Meaning that if it is raining out, I prefer not to start a long ride
unless I am already someplace and home is the return destination. But, riding
and encountering rain will happen sometimes and being prepared with gear makes
it much more comfortable and actually, safer. If you commute any distance to
work having a rain suit is nearly mandatory. We don’t live in the tropics so a
rainstorm can make you pretty cold in your riding gear very quickly. As we get
cold we lose mental acuity and it becomes harder to concentrate. When this
happens we may not be not riding at the level we should be, and that is not
safe.

We recommend and sell rain suits from Triumph. Our
experience is that when comparing value to price point these suits can’t be
beat. I own a 2001 vintage Triumph Chevron Oversuit and it still works
fabulously. I have logged over 1000 miles in the rain in that suit this summer
and it still does not leak a bit. Considering it has been worn probably 50 times
over the years, I can truly testify to its quality. The Chevron is a one piece
suit that has an innovative and award winning design that allows the rider to
put it on without doing a dance on the side of the road as they try to get their
legs into the pants portion. All of this is done with two zippers that run from
your chest to your feet. After removing the Chevron Oversuit from its supplied
bumbag you put your arms through the sleeves and immediately your upper body is
out of the rain. Then using two zippers and some Velcro you seal yourself into
the suit, remount your bike and you are off. Total time to do this is about a
minute after you get accustomed to the procedure.

Some riders want a two-piece rain suit, and there are some
good reasons for this. If you have a quality all weather riding jacket, you will
stay dry, for a while, in the rain. In this case a set of rain pants can help
you keep your bottom half dry. It should be noted though, that rain, especially
hard driving rain, has an uncanny ability to eventually penetrate most all
weather riding garments. A rain suit is essentially a big plastic bag and since
it doesn’t breath it doesn’t let water in even at speed.

So if you want it not to rain for the next three months get
yourself a rain suit!

Thank you for being on our mailing list and have a great
rest of the summer from all of us at Great Bay
!

the new Triumph Thunderbird, which is the best darn cruiser on the market.
Cycleworld magazine named the Thunderbird the Cruiser of the Year and for good
reason. It offers power and performance that exceeds anything manufactured in
the typical cruiser format. Imagine legendary Triumph handling, engine
performance pumped out of a signature Triumph parallel twin, and styling that is
totally unique. The Thunderbird is definitely a cruiser, yet it is distinctively
a Truimph, a truly beautiful Triumph.

We expect to have a demo soon, call us to get on the list
and we will call you when the bike arrives to schedule you for a ride on the all
new Thunderbird.

In other Triumph news we have a couple of early release
2010 models on the floor. The extremely limited Speed Triple SE, repleat with
John Bloor’s signature, hand red pinstriped wheels, color matched belly pan and
fly screen, special paint, and one serious special watch created to commemorate
15 years of the legendary Speed Triple. 225 of these units were shipped to the
U.S., so you won’t run into one of these parked next to every super common
Roadking or Softail! Stop in to check this beauty out.

The 2010 Tiger ABS on our floor is also a limited edition
model with a great two tone matte paint scheme, two box pannier system, hand
guards, and gel seat. This bike takes the Tiger and gives it a rough and ready
look with the accessories you need to conquer the world.

For 2009 all Triumph classic models were updated with fuel
injection and it has added extra smoothness and performance to the range.
Consequently, we have been sold out of T100’s and Thruxton’s for much of the
season and are happy to report we now have a couple of 2010 models in stock. The
new Bonneville and Bonneville SE for 2009 have become our top Triumph sellers,
with the awesome Street Triple and Street Triple R models a close second.

In the way of promotions, Triumph is offering 5.9%
financing for 72 months on many of their 2009 models, or accessory credits to
help you outfit yourself or your new Triumph the way you want it.

We are also selling our demo units. Stop in ride one and

The World of Ducati

THE WORLD OF DUCATI

As usual, Ducati has given the world some more outstanding
bikes this year. Congratulations to Ducati on receiving three awards for the new
Streetfighter, The Robb Report’s Best of the Best, Cycleworld’s 10 Best
Motorcycles of the Year, and finally Motorcyclist’s Motorcycle of the Year. Not
bad for bike that redefines the naked sportbike class by establishing new bench
marks in power and performance. The bike is stunning in appearance and a
thrilling ride. We have a demo S model available to ride. Please check in with
us to schedule your ride today.

The new 2009 Monsters are our top sellers. Sure, everyone
thinks about Ducati as a Superbike company, and their racing pedigree and
experience certainly shapes their product development programs. With the launch
of the phenomenal 1198 and 1198 S Superbikes it could be easy to overlook the
fact that the Monster family is all new for 2009.

This year we have sold more of the new Monster 696 than any
single motorcycle. Why? Because, the Monster 696 is one of the best bike values
for the hard earned dollar. You get outstanding handling, gorgeous modern looks,
and a powerful user-friendly motor. If you think an 80 horsepower 696 is too
small come check out our all new Monster 1100 and 1100S. These bikes are
potentially the best all around packages Ducati has ever produced. They do
everything well.

Check out what our Ducati sales pro, Aaron Chidester, has
to say about the new M1100:

Ducati Monster 1100

It's a Monster.
For sure, from the second you twist the throttle to that first hard turn, the
Monster 1100 is an animal. That being said, I have yet to find a better bike to
own. The Ducati Monster does everything I want it to. It's a perfect bike to
enjoy my trip back and forth to work, it performs on the track as only a Ducati
does, and lets face it, it just looks badass. Mandatory parts and accessories:
Termignoni Ti Exhaust and mid-pipe, Ducati performance fender eliminator, CRG
mirrors, Ducati Performance clutch cover/ pressure plate/ springs/ keepers,
Ducati Performance low profile turn signals, and Ducati Performance seat bag.
Come over to Great Bay Motorcycles and build your own Monster. Scare people.

FORZA DUCATI

Ducati has stepped forward with a promotion that spans its
entire product line. Ducati recognized that helping customers get the lowest
possible monthly payment and containing annual maintenance costs would be steps
forward that could help individuals who want a Ducati make the decision to
purchase one. In this case, riders who choose to realize the dream of a new
Ducati can save significantly.

Right now, all Ducati customers are eligible for a low
6.75% interest rate and free maintenance for the first year of ownership. Or,
customers trading in any motorcycle towards a new Ducati can choose a generous
trade in allowance on certain Ducati models and still enjoy the low interest
rate (rates are, of course, available to those who qualify). Imagine, you can
buy your new Ducati and have zero maintenance cost for one year while enjoying
an installment loan interest rate that is fixed at a low 6.75% for the life of
the loan.

Ducati has brought out an unbelievable line up of machines
in the last year. The 1198 and 1198S Supebikes are the epitome of sport bike
performance. The Hypermotard is one of the best motorcycle packages ever
produced if the goal of riding is to have the most fun as possible with a
capital F. The new Monster family looks great, rides great and is a worthy
successor to the legendary Monster lineage. Additionally, the new Streetfighter
has blown the lid off what a naked sport bike is capable of. Plus, the Ducati
line up contains the outstanding Sport Classic family with the all around GT1000
and GT 1000 touring offering great two up riding capability and all day riding
comfort. And when thinking of Ducati and comfort, nothing beats the venerable,
do everything well, Multistrada S.

Stop in and check out the new Nicky Hayden signature model
848. This gorgeous Superbike is one of only 150 ever produced making it one of
the rarest Ducati Superbike models ever. Besides the fabulous graphics it has
Nicky’s actual signature under beautiful clearcoat on the tank. Stop in to see
this historic bike immortalizing Moto-GP legend Nicky Hayden.

All in all, Ducati has a superb selection of the world’s
best bikes combined with active, real world promotions so that choosing to own a
Ducati the smartest decision you could make. Don’t hesitate to call us for
details.

RIDING THE NEW TRIUMPH THUNDERBIRD

Date line: June 16, 2009

I am fortunate to be able to report seat of the pants
experiences riding the new Triumph Thunderbird. Of course, I will be using
plenty of positive words, but please remember virtually every Triumph released
in the past 5 years has been a top ten bike, meaning it was noted as one of the
top ten bikes available for the year it was released. In the case of the Daytona
675 we can site three consecutive years being awarded the international master
bike nod for its displacement category. Triumph has simply released a string of
great handling and great performing motorcycles, so there is no doubt that the
Thunderbird has some serious standards to maintain.

Besides releasing another Cycleworld Magazine Top Ten
Winner, Triumph has proven it can design and build some of the best bikes in the
world. That’s right, the new Thunderbird already received the Cruiser of the
Year award. The bike is handsome, well integrated and performs accordingly.

Riding the new Thunderbird was a joy. It is the finest
riding cruiser I have ever been on, and I have ridden a mountain of them.
Shifting is smooth and power is plentiful. You can ride the bike and short shift
it like a V-Twin, the bike feels super torquey. If you roll hard on the throttle
you will feel a rumble beneath you as you are forced to the rear of the seat. As
you approach the 6500 red line the bike pulls with authoritative thrust and you
feel the motor pulsing beneath you. Roll off the throttle and the bike will
cruise along smoothly at as low as 1000 rpm. If you roll on the throttle again
in any gear the claimed 107 ft/lbs. of torque provide you with an overwhelming
sense of power. I won’t mention the ability to ………….on power in second gear, but
just know this bike has plenty of useable power.

This bike is definitely a cruiser and is very happy to ride
along in a super smooth and relaxed fashion. Handling is superb, with ample
cornering clearance and a confidence inspiring chassis. The ride is plush and
comfortable, yet the bike remains agile and on its line through bumpy turns.
This bike handles corners better than the leagues of H-D’s and Japanese cruisers
it was designed to compete with.

Midway through a sweeping corner I had the pleasure of a
driver on the phone in an old Chrysler K car convertible make a U turn directly
in front of me. The man’s eyes widened as he saw I was headed straight for his
door. A quick grab of the front brake lever put the four piston dual disc Nissan
calipers to work. When combined with a push on the pedal of the rear Brembo
equipped brake the Thunderbird came to a smooth, near panic stop, and I was able
to confidently roll past the rear bumper of the offending Chrysler pilot. So,
while I thought the Thunderbird’s brake set up was great under normal operation,
it proved to be outstanding when really needed. Triumph has given the new
Thunderbird sport bike quality brakes, and handling that will surprise operators
of any style of motorcycle.

In summary, the new 2010 Triumph Thunderbird never failed
to impress. It gained plenty of attention when parked downtown, and its blue and
white striped paint received many positive comments. The bike looks great
parked, but as it should be, it’s real character shined when ridden on the road.

We expect to have a Thunderbird demo model available soon,
or you can come on in and sit on the unit we have on display in the showroom. We
have been taking deposits on them and have already sent one happy customer on
his way down the road on a new Triumph Thunderbird. Feel free to call us or stop
in and check out the bike or just order your own Thunderbird.

Track Day FUN aka ... Ducati Revs New England!

Track Day Fun
Ducati Rev’s New England

Track Day Round Up

June 1st, 2009 – Loudon, NH.

We just rolled out from a fanatastic track day at New
Hampshire Motor Speedway. This years Ducati Rev’s New England was attended by
over 80 Ducatisi who enjoyed exhilarating fun on the track and camaraderie in
the pits. The event is hosted by Ducati and select Ducati dealers and run by the
great folks at Penguin Racing.

The morning was not warm and some of us actually felt cold
as we walked around the speedway on our track walk led by head Penguin
Instructor Eric Wood. The first part of the course has been changed because of
construction and now there is a chicane on the Nascar track, so walking the
track was basically essential if you wanted to understand the changes.

We went out for our sessions and most us liked the new
turns. The day alternates between classroom sessions and riding sessions and you
apply what you as the day goes along. We had an excited crew with us that was a
mix of staff members and customers. Two of our factory trained and certified
Ducati technicians Paul and Ryan, helped everyone get their bikes ready, and
provided everyone with a huge jolt of enthusiasm. We had a mix of Superbikes and
Hypermotards. Ryan riding his Hyper, did a great job of challenging the boys on
the 4 valvers, but their superior power showed itself on the tracks straights.

The time we spend together between sessions in the garages
is definitely a big part of the experience. The discussions range from the last
session, to who is faster, to the cool Streetfighter out on the track, to just
giving each other the usual hard time. One of our customers sent us the
following email, and this pretty much encapsulates what a first track day can do
for someone.

“I just
want to thank you again for inviting me to the track day on Mon. I had a great
time as well as my buddy Jason. We have some great pictures that I will probably send to you to post on the website if you want. It was truly an experience that every Ducati owner should have. I had no idea what the 848 could actually do. I would love to go again next year(maybe sooner). I just wanted to let you know that I really appreciate you guys helping me out with my first track day. The bottled water, removing my mirrors, taping the bike, loading and unloading the bike.... all of this was a huge help to me. It really shows the passion that you guys have for this lifestyle. I'm starting to remember some of the guys names, but please thank them for all the help and encouragement throughout the day.”

It sure sounds like he had a great day doesn’t it? The sound of a Ducati track days is unlike anything else. The sound of a Desmosedici on the front straight is
intoxicating, and the sounds of multiple superbikes around the course is rhythmic music. If you have never tried a track day we encourage you to do so.
Check out the good folks at Penguin (penguinracing.com) for race school and the
folks at Fishtail (fishtailridingschool.com) for a great track day experience.

So if you care to join us at next years Ducati Rev’s New England we would love to have
you. If you don’t have a Ducati yet, and especially if you have never
experienced the joy of riding a Ducati come visit us at Great Bay Ducati. We
have demo Ducati’s available for helping you experience first hand why you
should have a Ducati. We can help get you on a Ducati and on the right track……

A Winter Message from Al Arbor and the Service Department at Great Bay Motorcycles

We just wrapped up a great year at Great Bay Motorcycles, and I am proud to report that we have built an outstanding service team. For the past 22 plus years I have been working on Triumph and Ducati motorcycles. I have ridden them, raced them, and built them, and I am happy to say that I am still enthusiastic about these great machines.

At Great Bay Motorcycles we have the experience, training and special tools to make sure that your bike is ready for you every time you ride. Our mechanics are all Ducati Level II certified and fully Triumph factory trained which adds up to three A Level mechanics ready to work on your ride. I think it is important to note that all of us own and ride these great bikes and we apply our passion for these machines every time we work on one.

As we look forward to the spring, we have the opportunity to save you money and get your bike ready for the upcoming riding season. You can read more about this in our Service Specials section of this newsletter.

If you have not yet winterized you motorcycle or scooter, it is not too late to prevent problems from popping up in the spring. Now that we have seen the temperatures below 10 degrees please be sure to take these vital steps to prepare your bike or scooter for the rest of this cold winter, or call us and we can help you.

At minimum you should:
· Change your oil and install a new oil filter.
· Install a Battery Tender and plug it in.
· Add fuel stabilizer to your fuel tank and make sure you distribute it throughout the fuel system.
· Coat your machine with protectant.
· Check and adjust your tire pressure.
· Thoroughly inspect your machine for any loose hardware or defects.

Of course, we would be happy to do all of this for you, and we can arrange to pick up your motorcycle or scooter if you need us to. By acting now you can save yourself the future expenses associated with a non-prepared bike and eliminate any hassles when it is time to ride again. Also, we have some storage space still available. Your motorcycle or scooter can be kept safe and warm in our secure heated warehouse.

As for the service specials listed below, I think that the ability to turn back time and receive our labor rate from 10 years ago is an excellent opportunity. This allows us to offer you dramatic savings while helping us keep our technicians busy during the slowest six weeks of the year.

I want to wish you all a Happy and Healthy New Year and hope that you have a wonderful riding season in 2009. If I can be of any service don’t hesitate to call me, Old Al, Service Department Manager at Great Bay Motorcycles, 603 964 4450.
